Dr. Pierre Laneuville is an Associate Professor (GFT-U) in
the Department of Medicine and Oncology at McGill University
and the former Head of Hematology for the McGill University
Health Center.
Dr. Laneuville obtained an Honours B.Sc. at
McMaster University, his medical degree at the University of
Ottawa, trained in internal Medicine at McGill University,
and completed his hematology sub-specialty and research training
with Dr. B.A. Cooper at the Royal Victoria Hospital and McGill
University from 1985 to 1989. He then joined the staff and
faculty at the Royal Victoria Hospital and McGill University
and has focused his clinical and laboratory research activities
on hematological malignancies.
Dr. Laneuville is best known
for his research on the molecular mechanisms underlying the
genesis and transformation of chronic myelogenous leukemia.
He is the current President of the Canadian Hematological Society
and Chairman of the Canadian Consensus Group on the Management
of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CCGM-CML). He has served on numerous
basic and clinical research panels including the Medical Research
Council of Canada, the Leukemia Research Fund of Canada, the
National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Hematology
Executive, and the Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group.
He has held a number of research grants supported by the MRC,
LRFC, CRSI, MSSC, and is actively engaged in clinical trials
for hematological malignancies and stem cell transplantation.
Dr. Laneuville serves on the Honorary Medical Board of the
Leukemia Research Fund of Canada, and is a member of various
Ministerial Advisory Committees related to blood transfusion
and transfusion safety
