Dr.
Gail Rock received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1966, obtained
her MD from Ottawa University in 1972 and her FRCP in Hematopathology
from the University of Toronto.
She was
employed by the Canadian Red Cross as the Medical Director
of the Ottawa Centre for close to fifteen years during which
time
she developed local and national programs in Apheresis and
carried out many studies on blood and blood components. She
is Chief of the Division of
Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital
and Professor of Pathology at the University of Ottawa. She
is the author of more than 200
publications and has received 5 United States Patents.
She is
currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Transfusion
and Apheresis Science, President of the Canadian Hematology
Society
and Chair of the Canadian Apheresis Group. She is a member
of the National Canadian Blood Safety Council which reports
to the Minister of Health.
